LOUISE MINERVINO // DIRECTOR OF ACADEMICS
Prior to teaching and managing ESL programs in Hawaii, Louise taught ESL at what is now Jiao Tong University (then the Dalian Railway Institute) in Dalian, China and worked with a team to found the Futures American School, in Cairo, Egypt. Locally, Louise has taught English for 7 years and also taught a graduate course in organizational behavior for the University of Phoenix. She served as an Assistant Commissioner of Education in New Jersey and has directed public libraries in Pennsylvania, New York, Wisconsin and Connecticut. Louise has both a B.A. and M.A. at the University of Iowa and has an MBA from the University of Chicago.
DOUG GROESSER // CAMBRIDGE DIREKTOR & LEHRER
Unser Cambridge Direktor, Doug Groesser, ist einer der top Cambridge Instruktoren auf der Insel. Douglas hat über 20 Jahre Berufserfahrung, auf drei Kontinenten. Neben der Kursentwicklung und dem unterrichten bei weltweit renommierten Schulen, wie UC Berkeley, hat Douglas auch 8 Jahren Erfahrung mit den University of Cambridge Kursen. Douglas hat einen BA und MA in englischer Sprache. Bei ICC Hawaii, leitet er die Cambridge Vorbereitungskurse sowie alle Cambridge Prüfungen.
WHITNEY THORDARSON // ENGLISH FOR COMMUNICATION KOORDINATOR & LEHRERIN
Whitney’s B.A. in Business Administration und die CELTA Zertifizierung der Cambridge University haben eine extrem nützliche Rolle in ihrem Beruf als English for Communications Koordinator und Lehrerin. Sie leitet das Kollegium des beliebtesten Kurses bei ICC Hawaii. Ihre Liebe zum Unterrichten der englischen Sprache hat sich durch ein Studium im Ausland entwickelt. Als Hochschulstudent hat Whitney 3 Jahre lang in Japan gelebt und dort schlussendlich Englisch unterrichtet. Whitney hat über 20 Jahre Berufserfahrung, sie hat hauptsätzlich in Hawaii und Schottland unterrichtet.
SCOTT BOWLING // ENGLISH FOR COMMUNICATION LEHRER
Scott holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Arizona and a Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education from Northern Arizona University. He has been teaching for over 20 years, including three years instructing English abroad in in Portugal and Mexico. He is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. Scott’s progressive teaching methods blend proven ESL methods with the use of technology, such as wikis, online videos, and forums. Scott leads outdoor activities for ICC Hawaii, including hikes from the simple and scenic to more challenging trails. He enjoys leading more difficult hikes like he enjoys teaching complex phrases in English because he loves watching his students overcome obstacles they never thought they could.
DEVRI FUCHIGAMI // ENGLISH FOR COMMUNICATION LEHRERIN
Devri is a longstanding Hawaiian resident and enjoys her life on the island with her husband and three children. She obtained her B.A. in Intercultural Communication with an emphasis on English and linguistics from Arizona State University, where she graduated Magna cum laude with honors. She continued her teacher training studies via CELTA in 2004, passing with an A. Devri has worked with ICC Hawaii students since 2003 and has also taught ESL at Kaimuki/Kaiser Community School and the University of Hawaii. Devri’s students adore her class, saying she is a kind and helpful teacher with an infectious passion for communication in the English language.
TAD MATSUNAGA // ENGLISH FOR COMMUNICATION LEHRER
Prior to joining ICC Hawaii, Tad had 10 years of experience in teaching ESL in and around Kobe, Japan where he taught English to all ages (pre-school to seniors) and all levels. He taught in an international school, area churches, junior and senior high schools and a trade school. Tad earned a M.A. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Biola University. His thesis “Contrastive Rhetoric and Japanese English Students’ Expository Writing Style” which explores cultural differences in writing styles and their implications for ESL teachers is available through the ERIC Clearinghouse. Tad enjoys working at ICC Hawaii because “we have the best students from around the world, and who are earnest and really want to study English.”
DAVE RIGGS // ENGLISH FOR COMMUNICATION LEHRER
A native of upstate New York, Dave’s ESL experience has spanned almost thirty years and encompasses teaching in China, Japan, and Mexico. His experience in Japan also includes serving as a tour guide, an interpreter, and a cross-cultural director. With a B.A. in East Asian Studies from the University of Washington, and an M.A. in Japanese Language from the University of Hawaii, he has taught Japanese conversation at the University of Hawaii, Chaminade University and Kapiolani Community College. Dave has an M.A. in English from the School for International Training and another M.A. in Japanese Literature from the University of Hawaii. At Cornell University he studied in the MBA program. He is fluent in Japanese and also speaks some Chinese and Spanish. Dave says that the “atmosphere of ohana (family)” has kept him teaching at ICC Hawaii for more than eleven years!
