English for Communications Instructor Wendy has taught ESL at a reputable and highly selective private academy, Jisan-Hangil, in Gwangju, South Korea, where she designed and implemented the curriculum for over 160 students per school year in intimate class sizes, directed TOEFL preparation for first-year high school students competing to enter universities in Korea, France and America, including Harvard, and even kick-started a creative writing course for advanced students which became adopted by all branches of the academy. Prior to entering the field of ESL Wendy put herself through school by working in the service industry, where she learned to easily anticipate individual’s needs; a skill she now uses to quickly recognize whenever any student is falling behind in understanding or is struggling to express a difficult concept. With her educational background in fine art and a lifetime devotion to making art and music, Wendy is always using her creativity to keep the classroom interesting and fun. Her warm and candid character and unique approach to teaching promotes a stimulating and always-enjoyable classroom atmosphere, with plenty of constructive free-talk time to practice newly learned vocabulary and grammatical structures. Originally from Louisiana and still new to Hawaii, Wendy is as excited as a lot of incoming students to explore the island and all it offers, so there will be many opportunities outside of class to get to know this teacher and the other students better through outings to the beach, concerts, restaurants, art museums, and anywhere else adventure awaits.
